Wati obtained her bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences (Hons) from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi in 2019. After graduating, she worked at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Clinical Research Programme looking at the role of neutrophils in cerebral malaria prognosis in children. It was during this time that she witnessed first-hand the burden of Malaria on children’s health in Malawi. The project also piqued her interest in immunology; hence she proceeded to study for a master’s degree in immunology at the University of Glasgow under the BEIT TRUST scholarship in 2022.

She is currently enrolled at the University of Edinburgh under the Wellcome Trust PhD programme in Hosts, Pathogens and Global Health. Her project focuses on CD4 T cell tolerance in Malaria.

Outside work, Wati enjoys a good book or movie on crime investigation or mystery or sci-fi. She also loves social gatherings, church and volunteering.
